Larry Gillis
Larry Gillis
Comes from a little town called Soperton, located
in southeast Georgia. One half of the legendary
Gillis Brothers, Larry continues with his music
career in bluegrass. A world renowned banjo
picker, and one of the few who still plays the old
claw hammer style. He definitely has a traditional
style of his own. 2010 marks thirty years in the
business for Larry and truly justifies the title "Dr.
Swampgrass Gillis".
Rafe Waters
Has always loved traditional bluegrass and gospel
music. With a desire to be a part of this music,
taught himself to play the doghouse bass while
working as a paramedic. He was born and raised
in Glennville, Georgia and now resides in
Statesboro.
Alex Leach
Alex is from the Knoxville, Tennessee area, and
has studied the Gillis Brothers sound since he
was nine years old. He has been a DJ on the
radio since he was eight and now has his own
bluegrass show once a week. At twenty-one
years old, he plays lead guitar and sings lead
vocals with a talent like no other.
Ryan Gillis
Ryan is Larry's adopted son. He started learning
the guitar at the age of 14. With Dr. Gillis as his
teacher, no wonder it only took him a year and a
half to become part of the band. He makes us
proud. Just turning sixteen, he is home schooling,
loves music, riding his four wheeler, and scary
movies.
Ella Niaman
Ella comes from central California and is 23 years
old. She has always loved the Gillis Brothers and
wanted to play traditional bluegrass music. She
fits right in with the boys and brightens up the
show with her smile and enthusiasm. It shows in
her fiddle playing too. Curly Ray style fiddling
earned her the nickname Ella Ray.
